Some clients may be entitled to medicare rebates of $50.05 per consultation through the EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) program. Talk to your GP to determine if this applies to you or not. An extended consultation is often required by your GP to determine a care plan. Please ask when booking in with your GP.
Clients with a DVA gold card are bulk billed.
Clients with private health insurance may be able to claim a rebate through their extras cover. Please check your policy or contact your insurer.
Do I Need a Referral from my GP?
No, you do not need a referral to see a Dietitian. However, if you have a chronic and complex condition, you may be eligible for a chronic disease management care plan and can claim a medicare rebate. You will need to discuss this with your GP.
What is a GPMP (GP Management Plan) and TCA (Team Care arrangements)?
The Health Privacy Principles It is our usual practice to collect personal information directly from you and from your doctor or referring health care professional. We only use your pesonal information for the purposes for which it was provided to us and for related internal management purposes.
You may use this health service anonymously but in doing so you will be financially disadvantaged as we will not be able to process your account for a private health fund or medicare if applicable.
The Dietitian will discuss your medical history, your GP referral, blood tests, food habits and your expectations and goals. Your weight, height and waist circumference may be measured. If you are uncomfortable with this, please do not hesitate to let your Dietitian know.
The Dietitian may then discuss your medical condition and how food and nutrition may affect it. You and the Dietitian will then make a plan based on your individual goals and preferences. This may include education, diet, strategies or other supportive activities.
How Many Visits Do I Need?
There are no set number of visits required, however, we often recommend review appointments on a regular basis. In many cases we hope to make changes to life long habits and we find review appointments achieve better long term results.
For chronic conditions, it is recommended to have monthly review appointments for the first three months. Thereafter, three six monthly reviews and then finally 12 month reviews. With this regime many people have developed excellent eating habits that support a long term healthier and happier lifestyle.
